Wild and Beautiful West Coast

Easy Does It -- a few rocks can spoil your whole day...

After leaving the Indian Village of Klemtu we cruised down Finlayson Channel on a bright sunny day, around the tip of Swindle Island and over to Higgins Lagoon -- which was quite foul. Not even good for the dinghy. So, we headed over to Price Island and anchored at the head in an un-named cove -- which we now call Cobblestone Cove because of the interesting cobblestone effect of the shoreline. We had both the claw and danforth anchors out and spent a not so quiet evening - dancing on deck to 50's music! We were certainly the only humans for miles around!

Sunset at Price Island, Cobblestone Cove where we danced under the stars -- no pics of that!!

In the morning we made our way over the open ocean with only moderate swells -- a good thing too since I was running the boat for the crossing while the skipper slept -- and found a remarkable little bay in Louisa Cove on Athlone Island. This little bay has a beautiful white sand beach and on further exploration you'll find an old cabin the the woods and platform for tents. We wondered whether it was a Scout Camp or perhaps one maintained by kayakers. There is no name for this bay on the charts either so we've named in "Camp Bay". It is pristine and gorgeous and big enough for one boat our size.

During the afternoon a couple of young fellows in a fishing skiff came to the beach to filet their freshly caught coho and cook it up for their dinner. Finally, the fish have started to come down and I'll look forward to doing some trolling along the way!

We reluctantly leave our pretty little bay in the morning and spent 1 1/2 hours fishing but no luck so we are off to take a cruise around Millbanke Sound to find all the rocks and hidy holes on the ocean side of the McMullen Group of Islands.
