Eastsound -- Orcas and the Kayak Mishap

The short trip from the boat to Eastsound dock was made in both the dinghy and the kayak. Michael opted for the kayak and the rest of us took off in the dinghy. As there was no room on the tiny dock for even our dinghy we beached it and Grandpa, Aaron and I scrambled up the bank to the road. I then took off for town, leaving them to wait Michael's arrival. When he did finally arrive on land he was dripping wet. He launched the kayak off a cappella and forgot to tie the painter rope to the boat before he plunked it in the water. The result -- the kayak floated away and he had no recourse but to jump in and swim to retrieve it. Once captured, he paddled to shore and dried off in the heat of the sun. He was one salty dog!

Meanwhile, unbenownst to me of all this mayhem, I arrived at the local internet cafe to this sign.....

It turned out not be be a problem for me as I sat on their empty veranda and was able to get emails and blog -- fortunately, unlike the refigerator and the employee, the router was working.

Horsing around Eastsound -- note the drenched Michael.

These islands are full of interesting mother-earth type people -- and equally interesting vehicles. This one called the scootkar.

After a very pleasant walk about town, a stop at the ice cream shop and the grocery store we made our way back to the boat and settled in Judd Cove for the evening.

Michael back onboard with dry clothes!
